Parador De Santo Domingo De La Calzada

This place had a charming historical atmosphere, perfectly situated next to the cathedral for a bit of that local vibe. The spacious and clean rooms provided a comfy retreat after a long day of exploring, and the outdoor seating area was nice for an evening wind-down, despite the smoking that tends to linger in the air.

Getting to this place was a test of patience. The confusing street signs and barriers made navigation a pain, leading to unnecessary detours. Dinner was a letdown, with dishes that appeared thrown together and not up to par with what you'd expect from such a setting. Plus, waking up to cold water for a shower was a major buzzkill, and being charged extra for bread at meals didn't sit right. The restaurant seemed to suffer from inconsistent service, and the breakfast could have offered a broader selection. All things considered, a tad frustrating.

Loved the location. This historic part of the village is so quaint and charming, and authentic. The breakfast was great, the room was lovely. But most of all we enjoyed walking around the old town and exploring a few of the nearby villages.

It was so difficult to find this place though. The signage was not good and we ended up driving around the exterior of the compound at least 6 times before parking and walking in to get assistance.

I had a great time at this Parador! The historical charm is lovely, and my room was spacious and clean. The buffet breakfast had plenty of options, but I found it a bit pricey. Just beware of parking fees-it can sting a bit.

This lovely, former 12th. century hospital, was built by Saint Dominic on the remains of a palace belonging to the Monarchs of Navarra in order to lodge the pilgrims who were following the Route to Santiago is well worth the visit. It is located cater cornered across the small plaza from the 13th. century cathedral. Should no rooms be available, the newly opened Paradore Santo Domingo Bernardo de Fresneda ( named after the Archbishop of Zaragoza and confessor of Felipe II ) in the former convent of San Francisco is conveniently located nearby and may be available. I last visited there in the 1980's and have been pleased with the updating of the facilities.

The Parador is in a beautiful building opposite the cathedral. Breakfast, as always in paradors, was excellent.

The location near the cathedral enhanced our experience, the Wi-Fi was somewhat lacking, surprising in today's world. The multi-layered history surrounding the space added an lovely charm. Staff were friendly and accommodating, making our stay enjoyable.

Good historic square location

Beautiful Camino hospital building cleverly added to to provide comfortable modern hotel. Located within historic area of SDdlCalzada. Helpful staff. All to excellent Parador standards.

With the interuption of the strike the remaining staff was superb in the service they provided. This included the front desk, dining room (breakfast only, we took other meals out) and maid service. All excellent.

The Cathedral was a gem, restaurants in the village, at least the ones we visited, were ony average.

There are 2 Parador hotels in this small town and I did not realize this. It took a long time to establish which Parador I was actually booked into. I also had difficulty in actually finding the hotel in the old part of the town. From the time I arrived into the town, it took me over one hour to find the hotel in what is actually a very small town.

great location but service needs attention

The hotel boasts a magnificent interior that feels both historic and modern. My room was large, clean, and comfortable. I appreciated having secure parking options available. I was delighted by the variety offered at breakfast, with both local and international dishes.

Service at the restaurant was inconsistent and sometimes slow.
